Crown Chakra – Optimizing Body and Home for Wisdom
The crown chakra is located at the topmost part of the head. It is our energetic connection to the Universe. It allows us to tap into the energy of the sun, sky, and stars. At this point, our bodies complete the circuit between the earth and the heavens. It is associated with our spiritual energy, drawing energy up through the lower chakras as well as drawing energy down into our system.
When the crown chakra is balanced, we possess an ability to comprehend information. We retain an open mind to a broad spectrum of possibilities. Spiritually connected and aware, we understand how the web of connectedness threads all of life together. We can see that we are a part of a greater whole.
Problems in the Crown Chakra
Deficiencies in the crown chakra can produce rigidity in religious belief systems. These individuals may develop a cynical attitude toward spiritual concepts. There may also be a tendency toward apathy and closed-mindedness.
Excessive energy in the crown chakra can cause the individual to disassociate from their physical body. They may become overly dependent upon spiritual systems or teachers. These people live life completely “in their heads”, overintellectualizing most facets of their lives.
It is interesting to note that both extreme fundamentalism and ultra-orthodoxy can follow either an excessive or a deficient energy pattern.
Healing Crown Chakra Issues
Energizing a deficient crown chakra involves activities that focus on restoring a connection with spiritual sources. Meditation and routines that establish patterns of discipline, both spiritual and physical (like yoga or tai chi) are helpful. When the chakra is overcharged, it is helpful to engage in grounding activities. Counseling and examination of belief systems are helpful. Physical exercise and focus on the health and well-being of the body can reroute the excess energy. In either case, it is important to recognize that divinity exists within ourselves as well as in the world around us.
Skills & Knowledge – Opening Your Home’s Energy
In the feng shui energy system, the area of the home associated with the crown chakra is the Skills and Knowledge area. Standing at your front door, facing into your home, the Skills and Knowledge area is located on the front face of your home on the left side corner. Karen Rauch Carter, author of Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life, writes that if you could only enhance one area of your home, that this would be the one.
The Skills and Knowledge area (also called the “Wisdom” area) is all about using your brain power to your best advantage. Enhancing this area of your home boosts your ability to make sound decisions. This affects all the other areas of your life: money, career, relationships, etc.
Let’s say you are really working hard to juice up your love life. You are supercharging your Relationships area but neglect your Skills and Knowledge area. You might be apt to make poor choices when it comes to dating. If you are trying to manifest more prosperity but consistently make poor decisions around handling your money, then your Skills and Knowledge area needs work.
When you enhance your Skills and Knowledge area in conjunction with other areas of your home, doors you never anticipated start to open! You might get a fabulous idea about an invention that could bring in a great deal of money. You might make an uncharacteristic decision to attend a gathering in which you meet someone very special.
Enhancing your Skills and Knowledge area
Some of the items to include in this area are no-brainers (sorry… I couldn’t resist): diplomas, pictures of smart people, symbols of wisdom and most of all… BOOKS! This is the perfect place for your home library! Make sure that it is a well-lit space and that it is free from clutter and broken objects. Metal is the primary element of this area. You can also include water and wood from the neighboring areas of Career and Family, respectively.
It is also appropriate to create a small altar space in this area to honor your vision of the Divine. I like to include a small bowl into which I place slips of paper with my daily gratitude.
Colors associated with the crown chakra are purple and white. The feng shui color for this area is blue, but black and green are also good for this area.
Things to avoid in the Skills and Knowledge area
Clutter is the number one thing to avoid in this area. Clarity of thought is difficult to find in the midst of a mess. Make a clear space for your clear thinking to manifest.
Conversely, anything that muddles the mind is not appropriate for this area. This includes alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs of any kind. I would also remove anything that triggers addictive behavior from this space. If you spend too much time playing video games, this is not a good place for your games. If you have compulsive behaviors that center around your computer, move the computer elsewhere.
With your crown chakra aligned with the energy of your home, be prepared for all areas of your life to move forward with inspired action. You are literally hooked up with the creative force of the Universe! Let it empower you to manifest the life you desire!
