Law of Attraction: Busting Myths about the Divine
I’m bracing myself for the flamethrowers in this article. Yes, I’m talking about the Divine and the Law of Attraction. How do I know that what I’m about to say is going to upset the apple carts of some of my readers? Because I had to move past all of these limiting beliefs to find success and manifest with the Law of Attraction.
And before I go any further, I need to tell you that yes, I have been VERY successful with the Law of Attraction. I used it successfully in my long career as a conductor of church music. I have been able to convince amateur musicians that they were capable of doing things that were far above their actual capabilities. With extremely limited resources, I have built church music programs out of almost nothing. My last and greatest success was to create a handbell choir program of five octaves of handbells (costing $25,000). This was at a church where their starting resources were a two-octave set of hand chimes and a rag-tag bunch of kids and adults who rang them sporadically. And very little money for music.) You can see my fabulous intergenerational ringers presenting Katy Perry’s Firework here.
These folks could barely read music when I started. But I had an unshakeable vision that manifested this amazing outcome. Law of Attraction was at work. And for the record, I am a religious person. I’m an ordained Wiccan priestess who also happens to be a very happy Episcopalian. The Divine is at the very center of my life, and I don’t take any large action without consulting Source through prayer and meditation.
With my disclaimers on the table, I’m going to break down a few of the religious blocks that get in the way of Law of Attraction. Once you are able to release these points of resistance, you can manifest pretty much anything you desire.
#1 – Desiring money is not spiritual.
Money is a part of this physical existence. It is a source of energy, like oxygen, water, and food. It is a physical necessity and cannot be removed from this physical experience. The Divine created this physical plane, with oxygen, water, and food. We came up with the concept of money when bartering for the things we needed was no longer practical. Money isn’t evil, and if you think that it is, you are misquoting the Bible. Money is NOT the root of all evil. The quote goes like this: “The LOVE of money is the root of all evil.” [1 Timothy 6:10]
We need money for the basic necessities of life. We also need money for things that are important to us, like education and materials to create things. The foundation of this physical existence is the concept of creation. The Divine wanted to co-create with us. We were given hands and the desire to create in hopes that we would ask the Divine to partner with us (inspiration) to make things. If you are a potter and you want to make a pot, it makes sense to ask the Creator for a wheel and clay. Our Creator knows full well that money is required to create what we envision. It only makes sense that we would desire money for the purpose of creating. Money is no less spiritual than clay, any other offering of effort, or even the very human need of love.
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.”[John 16:24 – NRSV]
We only get into trouble with money when we devise means of obtaining it that hurts others. If your dream is to be a millionaire so that you can create the life of your dreams, manifest it! Just be certain that you are in co-creation with the Divine and that your means of manifesting wealth harms no one. My millions are on the way – I am going to have an absolute ball making angel donations to groups that aren’t expecting money!
#2 – Divine Scale and Human Scale are not equal
The Divine doesn’t care whether you want to manifest one dollar or a million. It’s really all the same to the Divine. A wise monk who was a mentor to my wife once told her, “Pray for whatever you want. Even if it’s someone else’s wife.” His thinking was that the Divine would work out what was the best way to bring your true desire.
Our Creator is not bound by human constraints. What seems like “a lot” to us is nearly inconsequential to the Divine. This goes for money as well as other considerations, like time. What seems long to us is nothing to the Divine. This also means that the speed of your requests means nothing to our Creator. (However, speed may require some discomfort on your part. Think your request through carefully before you ask for speed.) Again, God does not judge these things. They are simply material realities of this plane. Keep in mind the words of the Psalmist: “For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night.” [Psalm 90:4 – NRSV]
The Divine wants us to live lives in this physical plane that are rich with experience and fulfillment. Our Creator does not judge the nature of the creation, nor is the Creator constrained by our paltry measurements. Since money is a concern of this physical existence, then money is a concern of the Divine. If what gives you joy and fulfillment in life requires money, then the Creator is ready to assist with that manifestation.
#3 – Understanding the Rules
There’s always a catch, isn’t there? Here it is: The Creator set up this physical interface between us and the Divine with one simple rule: Everything that is to be manifested must be attracted through the Law of Attraction. You must ask for exactly what you want and match your personal vibrational frequency to the object of your desire. In other words, wanting a million dollars, but going around complaining that you are poor is going to get you nowhere (except maybe poorer). And the Divine wants you to be crystal clear about what you want.
One place where I was stuck around manifesting money through the Law of Attraction was a dangerous little word: enough. When you manifest “enough”, don’t be surprised if you match the dollar amount of your basic needs exactly. If you want “more than enough”, be specific. How much do you really want? Are you afraid to name a number for fear that you won’t get it and you’ll be more disappointed? Just do it. You know from experience that you’d be disappointed anyway, so go for it. Are you worried that if you put a limit on the amount that you won’t be able to manifest past that? Wrong! Just start a new manifestation project and pick a new number after you’ve received the first one.
#4 – Understanding the Motives of The Creator
So, what does the Divine get out of all this? What’s the payoff for the Source for All That Is? It’s deceptively simple, yet, I find it incredibly comforting. Above all else, the Divine desires deep connection with you through co-creation. Our Creator wants you to not hold back or censor yourself – to express yourself boldly and bravely, and to return to the Source for all you require to create your world. I learned from a friend of mine that in the Jewish tradition, the Divine desires conversation with us – even if that conversation includes us yelling and screaming at our Creator. It is only in those moments that we turn away or forget to connect to Source that the Divine grieves.
Like any loving parent, our Creator wants us to live a full and joyous life, in deep communion with Source. Let go of the baggage of limiting beliefs and say yes to co-creation with the Universal Source of Life.
